    Topic Unit 3 What were you doing when the UFO arrived?

    Resource analysis This lesson is the first period of the third unit of the textbook. It revolved the usage of the past tense in adverbial clause of the time. The adverbial clause of time is one of the important grammars of the eight tenses in Junior High School. What’s more, the adverbial clause of time is very common whenever in the class or after the class, and this unit is the third unit that plays a very important role in connecting the rest knowledge of the textbook. Hence, having a good knowledge of this unit will lay a solid foundation for the further study. In this class, the main content is the topic of “What were you doing when somebody did something?” This topic is related to our daily life, which enable students to use simple words to exchange their views.

    Student analysis Even though they are junior grade 2 students, who have already learned some basic communicative English yet, it is still necessary to use videos, some pictures and games to attract their interests and get themselves involved in the class. Students are in different levels. Some students are good at language spoken, while some students have abundant words and phrases. That's why students in the same class are in different level. Most of students can understand and apply the knowledge to the common life communicating, while some of the students are poorer. Fortunately most of the students are curious about English and are interested in it. They are active in class and want to gain the teacher’s recognition.

    T: excellent, everybody. Okay, class, do you believe the real existence of UFO? (teacher gave a topic to the students, in order to arouse their interest of this lesson and also bring them to the topic: what were you doing when the UFO arrived? )

    T:okay,student a ,do you think so?

    Step 2 Presentation

    1、T: well, thank you for your answer. So, now, what were you doing when UFO arrived?

    Ss: I was playing computer.

    I was taking photos of UFO…..

    T: Well, look at the ppt, and imagine what the people doing in the picture and match the right people and places in the form
