　　The conflict over what or how much homework should be comes partly from the fact that people can't seem to agree on the purpose of homework.

　　“Silence is gold” is a popular saying in which many people have belief. To these people speaking too much is not a merit. However, if you always keep silent, you will probably miss many golden opportunities instead of obtaining the gold of silence. Last week I read an article written by an office lady. The company where she worked had two kinds of offices: cubicle office and window office. As a new employee she worked in a cubicle office together with twenty colleagues. Two years later she still worked there but some colleagues who came later than her had moved into the window office. She felt confused. One day one colleague told her that window office wasn’t obtained without request. But believing that she certainly gained one if she did a good job the woman had never asked for it. From the woman’s experience we learn that silence is not always gold. In the modern society one needs to speak his mind and speak for his own interests.

　　A test of spoken English will be included as an optional component of College English Test . Some people argue that it is absolutely necessary to hold a test of spoken English in China because we have been informed frequently that a Chinese student who has been learning English for over ten years cannot even communicate with a native speaker. A test of spoken English will bring the college students an awareness of the importance of oral English, and will thus help them with their communicating skills.

　　On the other hand, some others still maintain that a good command of reading and writing skills will be enough for the English learners. To some extent their opinion derives from the fact that students are already under considerable pressure from their coursework. Another required test will only add to their burden.

　　In my opinion, a test of spoken English will do more good than harm. Since China will continue its policy of opening and reform, the ability to speak English fluently is a must for anyone who wants to surpass others in a highly competitive society. Whether I take the test or not, I shall spare no efforts to practice oral English in the remaining years of my college study.

　　a nice cool shower first thing in the morning wakes me up completely and leaves me refreshed. before taking the shower, i am usually so sleepy that i can hardly open my eyes. as soon as i splash cold water over my face and body, i wake up with a pleasurable sensation. then, as i stand there under the gushing showerhead, feeling the coolness of water over my body and listening to the sound of water gurgling down the drain, i feel totally refreshed and relaed. i enjoy taking morning showers. it is the best way i know to get the day off to a good start.
