關于圣誕樹有這樣一個傳說：據說有一位農民在一個風雪交加的圣誕夜里接待了一個饑寒交迫的小孩，讓他吃了一頓豐盛的圣誕晚餐，這個孩子告別時折了一根杉樹枝插在地上并祝福說：“年年此日，禮物滿枝，留此美麗的杉樹，報答你的好意。”小孩走后，農民發現那樹枝竟變成了一棵小樹，他才明白自己接待的原來是一位上帝的使者。這個故事就成為圣誕樹的來源。
圣誕節的確是個令人雀躍期待的日子，尤其是小孩子，他們盼望著在圣誕節，那個穿著紅色大衣，有著雪白胡須，紅紅臉膛，慈祥的圣誕老人，趕著馴鹿，拉著裝滿玩具的和禮物的雪橇挨家挨戶給每個孩子帶來禮物。他們相信這個快樂老精靈在夜里會從大煙囪下來，給他們帶來滿襪子的禮物。
