My dear fellow students,

　　The Olympics are just around the corner. Today I want to talk about good manners and courtesy.

　　We Chinese have always been respected and highly praised for good manners and courtesy, which have, as well, become precious traditions of our people. In a couple of weeks beyond, a large number of foreign friends will come to China to join us in enjoying the Olympics.

　　Beforeforeign guests, we should have an easy manner and behave politely and warm-heartedly. In public places, such ugly behaviors as uproar, pushing or squeezing together, spitting and so on should be determinedly forbidden. In a sense, each of us will not simply stand forourselves but stand for China. Therefore, boys and girls, let s do it well right now and the eyes of the world are to on us!

　　The passage mainly tells us that Chinese tourists were ranked second in a global poll of the worst travelers, as they behaved impolitely and improperly when travelling abroad. Actually, we can also find some impolite and improper behavior when we travel at home. For example, some tourists drop litter anywhere at scenic spots, smoke in the wooded mountains, or take photos when they are supposed not to. The behavior, on one hand, destroys the beauties of nature and affects other tourists’ moods, and on the other hand, it will produce a very bad national image. So it is necessary to be a civilized tourist. To do this, firstly, we should be aware of travel manners, such as speaking and behaving politely, especially in public places. Secondly, we should familiarize ourselves with local customs in advance, so as to avoid misunderstandings or troubles. And lastly, do as the rules of scenic spots require us to do. For example, we should not take photos or walk on grass if it is forbidden.

　　As the new year is coming, many families plan to go the zoo and have fun together. But recently, a tragedy happened in the zoo, a man was bitten by a tiger. The public scared, then later the truth came out that the men tried to skip buying ticket and he went across the limited line. The animal has their nature. Once they are under threat, they will do the horrible thing. If the visitors behave themselves well and do as the tips, then the tragedy won’t happen. But still a lot of people scream and try to throw away the food to the animals, which do harm to the animals. It is everybody’s duty to protect animals.

　　We have all seen or experienced it before---those inappropriate and often unsanitary actions which disgust and annoy most cultured people in society. Spitting, littering, peeing in public---all these and others fall into this category. I personally had the embarrassing experience one late night of seeing a man peeing alongside the river. He was not embarrassed at all.

　　Such inappropriate public behavior has a terrible effect on society. For one thing, most unsanitary behavior can spread germs and diseases to the general public. For another, they contribute to the pollution of the environment and show little or no consideration for the environment.

　　We must take steps as a society to improve this situation. Our government should sponsor public announcements and advertisements to emphasize the cultural inappropriateness of this kind of behaviors. Our schools and teachers should teach and enforce acceptable standards for all students. And in the home, parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles should all work together to teach the children what is right by example.
