有哲理的英語故事：名落孫山
In the Song Dynasty (宋朝) there was a joker called Sun Shan (孫山).
宋朝有一個很幽默的人，他叫孫山。
One year he went to take the imperial examination, and came bottom of the list of successfulcandidates.
有一年他去參加考試，公布名單時他是最后一名。
Back in his hometown, one of his neighbor asked him whether the neighbor's son had also passed.
回到家，他的.鄰居向他打聽自己的兒子考得怎么樣。
Sun Shan said, with a smile:"Sun Shan was the last on the list. Your son came after Sun Shan."
孫山笑著對鄰居說：“孫山考了最后一名，你兒子的名字還在孫山的后面呢。”
The people used this idiom to indicate failing in an examination or competition.
人們用“名落孫山”來比喻考試沒有考上或者選拔沒有被錄取。
有哲理的英語故事：杞人憂天
In the Spring and Autumn Period (春秋時期,770-476 BC), in the State of Qi there was a man who always let his imagination run away with him.
春秋戰(zhàn)國時期，杞國有個人喜歡胡思亂想。
One day he even worried that the sky would fall on his head. He was so worried that he could neither eat nor sleep.
一天，他竟然擔憂天會塌下來，地會陷下去，自己無處存身。這個人越想越害怕，便整天愁眉苦臉，坐立不安，睡不好覺，吃不下飯。
Later, someone persuade him that his fears were groundless.
后來，有個人就去開導他，那個杞國人聽后，才放下了心。
This idioms satirizes those who worry unnecessarily.
成語杞人憂天譏笑那些沒有必要或毫無根據(jù)的憂慮。
有哲理的英語故事：鄭人買履
A man of the state of Zheng wanted to buy a pair of shoes.
從前，鄭國有個人想買雙鞋。
He measured his foot and put the measurement on a chair.
他量好了自己腳的尺碼，把它放在了椅子上。
When he set out for the market,he forgot to bring it along.
可當他趕往市集時，卻忘了帶量好的尺碼。
It was after he had found the pair he wanted that this occurred to him.
他要買鞋時，才想了起來。
"I forgot the measurement", said he.
他說：“我忘帶尺碼了。”
He went home to get it. But when he returned, the market had closed and he did not get his shoes after all.
他回家去取量好的'尺碼。等他趕回來時，市集已經關了，他還是沒能買到鞋。
"Why didn't you try on the shoes with your feet?" He was asked.
有人問：“為什么不用你自己的腳去試一試鞋子呢?”
"I'd rather trust the measurement than trust myself."
他說：“我寧愿相信尺碼也不相信我自己的腳。”
